THE PRICELESS FOOD

Olives from which the olive oil is derived from are traditionally grown in the Mediterranean area, with Greece consistently being one of the countries with the largest production of olive oil. Olive oil is the protagonist of the Mediterranean diet and in ancient times our ancestors had realized its value. Homer had characterized olive oil as “liquid gold”, while Hippocrates had admitted its healing properties. The high content of monounsaturated fats and antioxidants in olive oil results in its beneficial properties, some of which are protection against heart disease, strong anti-inflammatory, prevention of strokes, reduction of the diabetes risk, inhibition of Alzheimer’s progress, hydration of skin and hair and many more.

AIM FOR QUALITY

The agricultural cooperative of Gramvousa is proud of the olive oil that produces. The calcareous soils, the generous sun, the mild summers and the efforts of our producers guarantee an olive oil with a unique character.  Authentic, delicately fruity and slightly bitter our olive oil is carefully produced from the field till our modern factory in order to be harmonically balanced in the taste and to maintain all these special ingredients (antioxidants, sterols) that make it so important for the Cretan diet. Soon after the olives’ harvesting the crop is directed to our cooperative’s factory to be mechanically pressed. All the processes are electronically controlled so that the temperature will not exceed 28° Celsius degrees in any phase.
